For as long as I can remember, I’ve been crazy about three things — music, engineering, and all things environmental. I’ve pursued each passion to one degree or another, but the last two are the ones that led me to an exciting education and career that has allowed me to meet and work with more wonderful people than I can begin to count.

I was able to combine my Environmental Engineering education with my brand-owner Packaging R&D experience starting in 2006, and from there I began the journey that brought me to the launch of Pack2Sustain in 2011. The sustainable packaging work that I’d been doing for a single company has now been performed for clients across three continents — and for organizations ranging from start-ups to multinational corporations.

What excites me the most is that the packaging industry continues to generate solutions that utterly destroy the idea that there is an inherent trade-off between sustainable solutions and ones that actually work. What’s become clear is that designing with ecologic intent comes down to creativity, expertise and will. That’s where I can help.

What People Are Saying

“Jay’s approach to his work balances the need for objective measures of packaging system performance with a passion for elegant solutions that minimize environmental impact. He is a knowledgeable, creative, driven force in the sustainable packaging community as well as a pleasure to work with!”

— Kim Rapagna | Target

“Jay is the type of person that everyone wants in their Rolodex. Simply because he is knowledgeable and an expert in his field. I have enjoyed my continual work with Jay, and look forward to working with him on more projects in the future. Jay is responsible, professional, forthright and innovative in his approach.”

— Aaron Witsoe | Earth911

“I found Jay to be very knowledgeable in a space in which there are few true experts — Packaging Life Cycle Analysis and Simplified LCA. My team threw a variety of different requests at him and he handled them all thoroughly and appropriately. Jay is cordial, professional and patient, and in general a pleasure to work with.”

— Lindsay Beck | ConAgra Foods

“Jay’s level of experience and knowledge has proven to be a major boost to our company’s presence in North America. His ‘can do’ manner and dedication to seeing a project through is the reason why he is able to achieve positive results. Respected by all, his collaborative approach, insights and professionalism make working with Jay a pleasure.”

— Victor Barichello | PIQET

“Jay has been a great asset to PTIS / Havi Global Solutions, particularly on projects looking for a quick turnaround on LCA insights. Jay is able to take and distill the complexity of LCA output into an easy to understand report to help clients understand the key drivers of environmental impact for their packaging.”

— Todd Bukowski | Havi Global Solutions

“Jay is an absolute pleasure to work with. We both recently consulted on a project for an organic liquid fertilizer company where I have been working for some time on an initiative to take their product to the retail marketplace. I have too little experience in environmentally sound packaging, so luckily found Jay through social media. From the first conversation to the point I delivered recommendations to my client, Jay was on top of everything. He brought the best vendors to the table, he educated me to the point I could educate others, he was always ready to bail me out of a sticky situation and he found the most exciting and interesting solutions for me to present to my client. I could not recommend Jay more highly — I’ve worked with many consultants throughout my career, and been one on several occasions myself, and can say with certainty that Jay is one of the best.”
