The Joy of Supporting Start-Ups

It was the summer of 2016. My family and I were at Universal Studios standing in long, hot lines. Typing away on my smart phone, I was working on a client project, trying to make the most of the time — and having fun!

Those in the consulting world know that project opportunities come when they come, irrespective of vacation schedules. What made this particular project so much fun was that I was supporting a start-up company in the Portland, OR area that was seeking to package a powdered organic fertilizer product. They needed help with pretty much everything – preliminary package design, material selection and co-manufacturing options – and all on an aggressive timeline.

Start-ups are often rich in enthusiasm and urgency, but less so in functional expertise. This likely explains why I’ve been approached to work with a handful of these types of brand owners over the last few years. The varied product types and team dynamics are always exciting, as are the opportunities to affect key strategic packaging decisions that can have lasting impact on the products’ sustainability performance.

So here’s the pitch, entrepreneurs: don’t strain your brain trying to navigate the complex waters of technical packaging design. Reach out, and we’ll get you on the path to your product launch!
